Sam Shima, Owner/Director Comes to Gymnastics Beat from: Rotary Playland & Storyland, where he was the executive director. (1995-2003) and three years as a volunteer rec. coach for Madera gymnastics and dance. School Attended: Highest Grade Completed: School Honors: Major Accomplishments: (Gymnastics) Regional Qualifier 1st year as a Sophomore State Qualifier as a Junior & Senior. Started teaching gymnastics at the age of 18 in Seattle. Moved to Los Angeles at age 25, and taught at the Hollywood YMCA where many actors worked out. Won a gold medal on parallel bars at Los Angeles Senior Olympics for his age division. Sam is very proud that in the last eight years he led the way in the “Saving Storyland & Renovating Playland Rides” 1997-2003 campaigns. Goals: Opening this gym was Sam and his wife Diana’s major goal. They wish to ensure that all children as well as adults take gymnastics in one form or another. It keeps the Shima’s young. Sam wants to have one of his Children’s Fables published. Most of all he wants to ensure that Danielle is proud of Papa. Cool Facts: Has traveled throughout Japan & China, Greece, France, Italy, Canada, Mexico, and across the US including Hawaii & the Virgin Islands. Met Muhammad Ali in Japan. Met Peter Vidmar (1984 Gold Medalist in Gymnastics) in Los Angeles. Married in 1995, to Diana, and is overjoyed to be wrapped around Danielle’s finger. Other Gymnastics Beat Employees:
